How It Works
Small groups, real structure,
online every day
Every student receives a structured daily programme of English and Maths tuition, delivered by an experienced tutor who knows them. Sessions are consistent, relational, and built around genuine progress.
The Student Journey
From referral to progress
Referral
A local authority refers a student to Ember Tutors through our commissioning process. We review the referral and confirm placement.
Welcome Week
Before any academic content, the student meets their tutor and their small group. This week is about building trust, understanding preferences, and establishing rapport. We also include a structured assessment to help us understand where the student is academically.
Daily Sessions
One hour of English and one hour of Maths, five days a week during term time. Sessions follow a consistent structure: rapport, retrieval, new learning, and reflection.
Progress & Reporting
Regular progress reports are shared with commissioners and families. Half-termly reviews track emotional and academic progress as well as assessing readiness for the student's next challenge.
Managed Transition
When a student is ready, we support a managed transition — whether that's back to mainstream, into further education, or towards another pathway that fits.
Curriculum
National Curriculum aligned
We deliver English and Maths tuition aligned to the National Curriculum, covering Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (ages 11–16). Content is standardised and structured so that tutors become deeply familiar with the material.
Personalisation happens in how content is delivered, not what content is delivered. Tutors adapt pace, examples, and approach to each student while maintaining curriculum integrity.
Small Groups
Two or three, never more
Students are placed in groups of two or three, matched by level and compatibility. This is intentional: learning doesn't happen in isolation, but it also doesn't happen when a student feels invisible.
Small groups mean every student is seen, every session. The tutor knows their interests, their triggers, and their strengths.
Technology
Built for online learning
We have a user friendly platform built for small online groups. Video, interactive slides, and a shared whiteboard — all in one space. No switching between apps, no technical friction.
